I am a speech language pathologist with 20 years of experience working with children that struggle with speech and language delays. This site is designed to help empower parents (or caregivers) while providing children with the articulation assistance that they need. Over the years, I have watched parents struggle with insurance approvals, time schedules and financial demands that are placed upon them when their child has difficulty speaking clearly.

Most insurance companies do not approve therapy for a child with articulation or language delays because they assume that the child will receive these services in the school setting. If insurance companies approve speech therapy, it is often for 10-12 visits per year. As an expert, I can assure you that this is not enough speech therapy for most children to gain and master a sound. Many schools cannot accommodate a child with articulation or language problems because the child is not "severe" enough and the school speech pathologist's caseloads are already packed full. Schools across the US and other countries are eliminating special needs services including speech therapy. Many families do not get the services needed -- because they do not know where to go, they do not have the funds available, or both.

Most families, mine included, must juggle many demands.
